Maureen graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education, and secondary level teaching credentials in Wyoming and California. She then attended the United States International University where she obtained her Masters Degree in Education. Maureen obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she was president of Women's Caucus and received the American Jurisprudence Award for Family Law.
After law school, Maureen joined Riverside National Bank as General Counsel, practicing financial institution law from 1992-1994, and then transferred to Shapiro and Miles in Orange County to continue banking and real estate litigation. Maureen joined Voss, Cook & Thel in 1995 and served thereafter as Of Counsel to law firms practicing business and real estate litigation.
Maureen joined the Orange County Superior Court in 2005, serving the mental health community as a Riese Hearing Officer for the Probate Court. In addition, she served the Juvenile Court and a Referee presiding over Juvenile Drug Court, Truancy Court, as well as juvenile dependency and delinquency matters.
In addition to her legal work, Maureen is a volunteer through the Constitutional Rights Foundation serving as a judge for both the High School Mock Trial competition as well as Peer Court hearings. Maureen serves on the PTA for her children's schools, is a board member of the Community Courts Foundation, and serves the homeless through Catholic Charities. Maureen is also an avid athlete who has completed numerous marathons and triathlons, including the Boston Marathon and the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon. She has completed six legal thriller novels and enjoys the craft of fiction writing.
